Pope Leo XIV had the privilege of canonizing Pier Giorgio Frassati, the first saint under his pontificate (only by seconds as Carlo Acutis was declared a saint immediately afterward.)
A few days following the canonization, Pope Leo had his first chance to encourage pilgrims to follow the example of Saint Frassati and Saint Acutis during a general audience on September 10, 2025. In his greeting to the French pilgrims, he said:
"When the hour of trial comes, like the new saints Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis, let us learn from Christ the cry of hope and the desire to open our hearts wide to the will of the Father who wants our salvation. May God bless you!"
